<article><hdr>Airborne shot of F-80 Shooting Stars</hdr><body>
<hi style=afpcap>Four Lockheed F-80 Shooting Stars of the 8th Fighter Bomber Wing stationed at Suwon Air Base, South Korea providing close air support to ground forces during the war in Korea. The name Shooting Star was allocated to both the F-80 and the T-33A trainer. Designated as the P-80, the Shooting Star was the first jet aircraft to enter operational service with the USAAF, with huge quantities ordered during the Second World War and many of these being cancelled subsequently. The F-80 saw action during the Korean War and was later modified as an unmanned drone as the QF-80. A reconnaissance version initially designated FP-80 was later changed to RF-80.</hi>
